Christophe Mittnacht has just finished the 2026 harvest at his domaine in Hunawihr. He sent us this update, and the news is better than he expected.
After a very hot summer with a long drought, Christophe and his team feared a very small harvest and stressed musts. Not every tank is full, but the grapes came in surprisingly juicy and in such good health that very little was lost.
“It is undoubtedly partly a matter of luck, with a few precious drops of rain arriving at just the right time… but it is also the result of more than 25 years of working closely with our vineyards through our organic and biodynamic approach.”
The domaine converted to biodynamics in 1999, one of the first in Alsace to do so. Over the years this has encouraged the vines to put down strong, deep roots, so they can draw water and nutrients from deep in the soil even in a dry year.
Some questions remain about the balance of the new wines, and a few of the new cuvées are fermenting slowly. Christophe and his team are watching them closely, and we will share more as the wines take shape.
“A bientôt !” Christophe and his team
