Freccianera (formerly BERLUCCHI)
FRANCIACORTA
Freccianera (formerly Fratelli Berlucchi), which means Black Arrow, has been on the labels for some years, but now it will become the official name of this wine producer. This decision is to give their outstanding Franciacortas greater recognisability, and to differentiate them from the much larger scale production of their relative Guido Berlucchi. Freccianera was chosen as the new name because, some years ago a Bronze Age arrowhead was discovered in their Tre Camini vineyard. This arrowhead is now also the new company logo.
Fratelli Berlucchi have 70 hectares, and are the largest privately owned estate of the Franciacorta appellation. Unlike some of the better-known labels, Fratelli Berlucchi use only their own grapes. The vines, aged between 10 and 50 years, are 220m above sea level, and are planted on calcareous morainic soils. The principal varietals are Chardonnay, Pinot Nero and Pinot Bianco, but they also have Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon for their still wines. Franciacorta Brut 25 is 100% Chardonnay and comes from the estate’s younger wines. It represents exceptional value for money and makes the perfect pouring Franciacorta.
In the 2022 Champagne & Sparkling Wine Championships, Fratelli Berlucchi were awarded the Regional Champion Trophy for Best Franciacorta for their Brut 25 NV!
