FLEURY D’AUDE
Situated in the village of Fleury d’Aude, in the region known as La Clape, Château de la Négly has 25 hectares under vine overlooking the Mediterranean, near Narbonne. Owner Jean Paux-Rosset and his talented consultant oenologist Claude Gros produce sublime, natural, unmanipulated wines from low yielding, super-ripe, hand-picked fruit.
The vines are planted on limestone soils in sight of the sea and benefit from cooling breezes that moderate the ripening of the grapes. All these wines have a wonderful vivacity and freshness. This is a truly stellar wine estate.
La Brise Marine is a sumptuous, generous , vibrant blend of 70% Bourboulenc and 30% Roussanne. The Bourboulenc is fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel and aged on its fine lees for six months, whilst the Roussanne is vinified in barriques. A magnificent white wine.
La Côte is a blend of Carignan, Mourvedre, Syrah and Grenache. Attractive floral aromas with a soft, smooth and fresh palate. Delicious as soon as opened. I love the back label food pairing recommendation “ideal with a magret aux truffes “ – absolutely !The La Côte 2019 is terrific!
La Falaise (available in small quantities) is a sensational, rich, joyous wine with enormous concentration and complexity. It is a blend of low yielding, late picked 50% Syrah (sorted berry-by-berry), 40% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre, destemmed and traditionally fermented with a 45-60 day cuvaison and matured for 12 months in a combination of demi-muids (Grenache) and barrique (Syrah, 50% new) and bottled unfined and unfiltered. – Impossible to write a succinct tasting note that would do this wine justice; suffice to say it encompasses everything you want from a great red; richness but with finesse, silky smooth with a long, long finish. A truly Fine Wine!
