Warm Welcomes and Fond Farewells

3rd April 2023

Team

Dear friends,

We are very happy to have welcomed those of you who were able to attend our Portfolio Tasting on Wednesday.  It was the first time with our growers present at Merchant Taylors’ Hall, since before the pandemic.  A very special occasion and already we look forward to repeating this in March 2024!

Two announcements following our tasting.  The sad news is that we say goodbye to two colleagues in the following months: Violaine and Tim.  We thank them for all their contribution to Thorman Hunt, their friendship and their loyalty; Violaine joined us 25 years ago.  We wish both every success in their next adventures.

This brings us onto the second piece of news.  We are happy to share that we are welcoming two new colleagues to the team: Simon Thorpe MW as Managing Director and Samuel Bisson as Operations Manager.

Simon Thorpe is an eminent Master of Wine and Francophone, who has a wealth of experience at the helm of several key UK wine businesses, most recently Wine GB.  Simon’s wide-ranging experience of the UK wine trade embraces top-end retailing, buying, major brand representation as well as sales to wholesale and on-trade customers.

He will join us later in June as Managing Director.

Samuel Bisson, who joins our team next week, was born in Normandy and raised in Paris.

We first met Samuel when he was the Wine Buyer at Wholefoods, since then and for the last few years, he has gained valuable experience with another wine importer as Head of Operations.

We have been much helped in this recruitment by our new non-executive Chairman Alun Griffiths MW, who we have also recently welcomed to the TH fold.  Alun was for many years Director of Wine at Berry Bros and Rudd.

Alongside the farewells, we are delighted to welcome our new joiners, and we remain, as always, an independent family wine importer.

Best wishes,

Jeremy, Charlie, Emma, and the Thorman Hunt Team
