CHÂTEAU PUYNARD
CÔTES DE BLAYE
Château Puynard is situated on the right bank of the Gironde, in the commune of Berson, six kilometres north east of Blaye itself. The estate covers roughly 17 hectares, 14 of which are under vine. The soils are a mixture of sand and clay/limestone over a bed of limestone; the vines, aged between 9 and 43 years, surround the château. The encépagement is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. Annual production is about 55,000 bottles.
The owners, an enthusiastic and committed Irish couple, Naomi Murtagh and Andrew Eakin, are intent on producing wine that will give great pleasure as well as great value for money. Their wine has all the juicy approachability of a first class Côtes du Rhône, but with the unmistakeable flavours of cassis and ripe, cedary Cabernet notes. A perfect Bordeaux to sell by the glass.
